Ball in Buckets

Supplies
- Balls
- Buckets- I use large yogurt cups
- List of kindergarten position words (around, above, on, in, out, over, under, below, between, beside, through, behind, in front)
- Bin to hold supplies in- Label bin for easy access

Activity:
- I use this activity with my Kindergartners to provide them with gross motor movement while teaching them positional words. I give the students different directions using the position words. For example, make the ball jump over the bucket. I may have them sit on the floor near a chair and have them put the ball under the chair, over the chair, on their head, under their foot, etc.

Variations:
- Do position words using the ball and a chair or desk
- Do the position words using bean bags rather than a ball
- Do position words using a weighted ball to provide heavy lifting movement
- Make it a game called, "Last Man Standing." They need to follow the directions. If they do it correctly they get to stay in the game. If they mess up they have to sit down. The last person still doing it correctly wins the game. Only play this way if your students are mature enough to do so without fits occurring on a regular basis.
